A full Pinkie Promise Chapter 1 walkthrough: the apple cart, the barn fire, the Everfree vines, the train chase, the promise and the final cupcake.
Pinkie Promise Chapter 1 Walkthrough: Every Step From Sweet Apple Acres to the Cupcake
Pinkie Promise is a short chapter-based horror story, not an open world. Chapter 1 runs about forty minutes on a first playthrough and roughly twenty-five once you know the beats, and almost everything that kills you is a scripted set piece rather than a roaming monster. That is good news: the chapter is linear, the checkpoints are generous, and once you understand what each scene is testing you can walk it cleanly.
This walkthrough follows the route players have documented since the October 16 launch. The chapter structure is stable; small interaction timings are player-tested and may shift when Party Cannon Studios patches the game. The official game page is Pinkie Promise, last updated October 22, 2026.

The Chapter in Seven Beats
| # | Scene | What the game is testing | Failure state |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sweet Apple Acres | Basic interaction and carrying | None — the cart spill is scripted |
| 2 | The barn fire | Following instructions under pressure | Kindling badge if you stay inside |
| 3 | Chickens and the platform | Herding a moving object | Lost time only |
| 4 | Everfree Forest | Finding the right tool (glowcaps) | Lost in the Everfree if you improvise with fire |
| 5 | The train chase | Timing jumps and slides | Lost in the Everfree |
| 6 | Sugarcube Corner | Reading a two-sided checklist | Broken Promise if you break a rule |
| 7 | Hide and seek and the private room | Patience and search | Found You! resets the promise, no save loss |
1. Sweet Apple Acres: Do the Chores
You wake up in the orchard with Applejack telling you to load the apple cart. Walk to the crates, pick them up, and stack them on the cart. One basket spills on purpose — that is not a bug and not a punishment, it is the game teaching you the pickup prompt. Collect the loose apples, put them back, and finish the load.
The scene exists to establish two things you will use for the rest of the chapter: the interact prompt is context-sensitive, and Applejack gives orders you are expected to follow immediately. Players who wander off here lose nothing mechanically, but they also miss the window interaction that leads to one of the chapter's secrets.
2. The Fire: Fetch Water, Then Leave
Lightning strikes the barn in clear weather — the game is telling you this is not a normal day. Applejack sends you to the well. Fill the bucket, carry it to the fire, throw it, repeat. You cannot save the barn. After two or three buckets the fire spreads regardless, and Applejack switches from "put it out" to "get out."
Leave when she says leave. Staying inside to fight the flames is the trigger for the Kindling badge — "You didn't make it out of the barn." Walking out with her gives you Out of the Fire instead. If you want both for badge completion you will need a second run; there is no way to do them in one pass.
3. Chickens, Then the Train
Outside, a few chickens have escaped and are running around the yard. Herd them back into the coop by walking behind them — they move away from you, so push them toward the door rather than trying to grab them. This is the only scene where the game asks you to steer something, and it is forgiving.
Once the chickens are in, follow Applejack to the station and board the Friendship Express. The train leaves automatically.
4. Everfree Forest: Glowcaps, Not Fire
The train stops because Fluttershy is tangled in vines. The vines are marked by glowing knots, and the tool is the blue glowcap mushrooms growing nearby: pick one up, press it against each knot, and the vine retreats.
The trap here is obvious in hindsight. The game has just spent ten minutes teaching you that fire is the answer to problems, and there are lanterns and a fire source in the scene. Using fire on the vines triggers Not Fire! — "She asked you not to." Fluttershy tells you the forest is listening and asks for quiet, so keep the interaction slow and do not sprint through the scene.
Her "just one more" line is not a joke about the vine count; it is the game warning you that the last knot is further from the train than the others. Finish every knot before you go back.
5. The Timberwolf Chase
The train whistle wakes the timberwolves and the chapter turns into a running set piece along the railway. The prompts are readable: jump the fallen logs, slide under the low branches, and hold still when the fog rolls in. Missing a prompt costs a small amount of ground, not an instant death, so the section is more forgiving than it looks.
Keep running until you reach Whitetail Bridge. Fluttershy frees the train and meets you at the water; the wolves will not cross it. This is a checkpoint, so if you die later you restart here rather than at the orchard.
6. Sugarcube Corner: The Promise
In Ponyville, Pinkie Pie walks you to Sugarcube Corner — the gingerbread house — and gives you the tour: front room, party room, kitchen. The party she promised has not been organized, so she hands you a list. The list has two sides; finish the front before the back appears.
Before any of that, she extracts the pinkie promise. The rules:
- Stay for the whole party.
- Do not go into her room — it is a surprise.
- Do not touch the cake.
- And do not go into the basement — "I guess that's four."
The oath is "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." Refusing it repeatedly triggers Wrong Answer, so say it once and mean it.
7. Hide and Seek, the Key, the Private Room
Every time Pinkie goes upstairs to get ready, she starts a five-second count: "PARTY TIME, EVERY PONY. You have 5 seconds to hide." You do not have to be clever — you have to be out of sight when the count ends and stay there while she searches. She announces "I can hear you breathing," but standing still works.
Surviving a search gives Not Found. Being caught gives Found You! and loops you back to the promise with no progress lost, so a catch is a scare rather than a fail state.
Finish both sides of the checklist, then take the spare-key objective: search the dressing table beside the big bed for the key, unlock the door, and read the cupcake recipe on the wall. Reading the recipe is the step that counts — simply opening the door does not. If Pinkie comes upstairs while you are inside, hide again until her footsteps fade.
The Finale
Repeat the promise, then play one last game of hide and seek. She counts, announces "Ready or not," finds you, and tells you that you did it. Do not move. Sit when she says "Every pony find a seat," listen to the toast about friends who never leave, and eat the cupcake when the party cannon fires. The screen goes soft and the chapter ends with "Now, you'll be at every party."
That is the whole chapter. If you are chasing badges, the order that costs the fewest replays is: finish normally first, then do a dedicated death run for Kindling and Lost in the Everfree, and save the provocation badges for a third pass.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Result | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Staying in the barn | Kindling, chapter restart | Leave on Applejack's line |
| Using fire on the vines | Not Fire! | Glowcaps only |
| Sprinting through the forest | Missed vine knots | Walk the scene once, methodically |
| Breaking a promise rule | Broken Promise | Treat the four rules as hard limits |
| Opening the private room door and leaving | No credit | Read the recipe on the wall |
| Refusing the oath to see what happens | Wrong Answer | Say it, then move on |
FAQ
How long is Chapter 1? About 38 to 45 minutes on a blind run, based on two uncut playthroughs; the story itself is shorter than the walking.
Can I save mid-chapter? Progress is checkpoint-based, not manual. Dying in the forest returns you to the bridge.
Do choices change the ending? No. Chapter 1 has one story ending; the badges record what happened along the way. See the endings guide for the full breakdown.
Where are the secrets? The secrets guide lists all ten, including the two that are easy to walk past.
Is there a Chapter 2 date? Not officially. The Chapter 2 page separates the community rumour from what the developer has confirmed.
